ELITE OF ROWLAND HEIGHTS NEWS

SUMMER 2012 PROGRAM AT ELITE OF ROWLAND HEIGHTS
ENROLLMENT IS OPEN FOR ELITE'S SUMMER PROGRAM (June 15 thru August 11)
Every summer, Elite of Rowland Heights offers a variety of programs and schedules for SAT Reasoning Test preparation - from our basic but comprehensive Weekend SAT Program to the demanding Morning and Afternoon SAT Boot Camps to the rigorous 2100 Plus/Goal Programs for advanced level students planning to take the SAT this fall.

Most high school students start preparing for the SAT Reasoning Test in the summer before their 11th grade because students generally plan to take the SAT in their junior year and because they can focus on studying for the SAT during the summer time.

Elite also offer academic enrichment programs for students in grades 6 through 9 in the areas of English enrichment program built around a reading-centered approach to math preview courses to prepare students for the upcoming school year.

Our Summer Program runs for 8 weeks from June 15, 2012 through August 11, 2012. After the Summer Program concludes, students enrolled in the 2100 Plus/Goal program will continue to prepare for the SAT until the October test administration.

THE WAITING LIST
Due to the unprecedented number of applications received by selective colleges, many of these colleges use a waitlist to fill out their freshman pool. This year, all of the campuses in the University of California system except UC Merced will use waitlists.

Students might receive waitlist offers from more than one college. Students may accept as many waitlist offers by opting in by the given deadline. For the UC, the freshman waitlist opt-in deadline is April 15.

Because colleges will not decide whether to accept students from the waitlist until after the deadline for other students who have already been accepted to submit their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), students who accept a waitlist offer should submit their SIR and deposit to a college to which they have been accepted by May 1 to ensure that they can attend a college in the fall.

If students later accept an offer of admission from a college where they have been waitlisted, the students will forfeit their deposit at the first campus.

APPEALING THE DENIAL OF ADMISSION
What If You Are Rejected?

While you will understandably feel dejected if you are denied admission to a college that you are particularly fond of, try not to take the rejection personally. Most colleges receive many more applicants than they can accept. As a result, colleges have to make some difficult decisions. (For example, UC Berkeley and UCLA reject over 75% of the students who apply these campuses.)

You may appeal an admission decision if you have new information that was not available at the time that you submitted your college application (e.g., recent accomplishments or achievements after you submitted your college application) or compelling reasons that rise to the level of personal hardship (e.g., you need to attend a certain college because you have a health condition that requires you to obtain medical treatment at a local hospital.) Colleges typically also consider a student's grades in the senior year so be sure to continue to do well in 12th grade.

Most colleges have a deadline by which students need to submit their appeal letter, but you should consider submitting an appeal letter as soon as you can. Bear in mind, however, that appeals are not often successful because colleges will have carefully considered the information presented your admission application.

As with students on the waitlist, students appealing a denial of admission should submit their SIR and deposit to a college to which they have been accepted by May 1 to ensure that they can attend a college in the fall.
