Colleges do not necessarily prefer one type of extracurricular activities over another. In general, colleges like to see that the student truly enjoys what he or she is doing and is able to accomplish something wonderful through that experience. The key is understand what your interests are and what you are good at and to find activities that will allow you to more fully develop your interests and accentuate your strengths.
In addition, your extracurricular activities should allow you to demonstrate your intellectual interests and passions as well as highlight important personal qualities and talents, such as musical or athletic skills, leadership potential, good citizenship, and commitment to volunteerism.
